One by one they took their turn: four skiers from four different schools, all representing one town at one exclusive event.
Bedford High School sophomore Andrew Weeks, Bishop Brady junior Stephanie Siegart and Bishop Guertin sophomore John Scheetz, all of Bedford, had competed together and against each other at Pats Peak for the previous four years.
Manchester West’s Scott Hammond, from the same hometown, competes for Ragged Mountain.
The quartet, having finished among the top 10 in their respective divisions a week prior, competed individually at the Meet of Champions at Gunstock Mountain in Gilford on Thursday, Feb. 21.
“I think it definitely helps because I can see what everyone else is doing (on the slopes), and it shows me where I am in relation to others in the state and where I’d like to be,” said Scheetz.
Weeks took fourth in slalom with a two-run total of 1 minute, 28.96 second, placed among the top 10 overall at the MOC and earned an invitation to the USSA Eastern High School Championships, which take place at Cranmore Mountain in North Conway from March 14 to 16.
He represents Team New Hampshire at the event, which includes teams from up and down the Atlantic seaboard.
Weeks placed 21st in giant slalom with runs of 45.42 seconds and 46.34 seconds.
Scheetz edged Hammond on slalom, taking 15th place with a combined time of 1:43.45 to Hammond’s 1:44.78.
In giant slalom, however, it was Hammond with the slight advantage, tying for 22nd at 1:32.71, while Scheetz was 24th at 1:32.88.
Siegart finished 28th in slalom among girls with a two-run total of 1:53.18 and 32nd in giant slalom in 1:39.23.
