Approximately 95 people will be needed to help run the upcoming voting days at Bedford High School, said Ryk Bullock, school district moderator and assistant town moderator.
Bullock, a member of the state’s Election Task Force, said people will be paid $7.65 per hour and will work on a variety of tasks throughout the day.
This year, voting will move to Bedford High School after being held at McKelvie Middle School for the past 22 years, said Bullock.
In 2004 presidential election, it took some people more than two hours to cast their vote. The process was revamped for the 2007 March town elections and things went more smoothly.
“We have simply outgrown McKelvie and hope that voting at the high school will only take about 10 to 15 minutes,” he said.
Eleven voting check-ins and 118 voting booths at McKelvie are expected to grow to 21 checkins and 300 voting stations at Bedford High School, said Bullock.
The town will also provide four handicap-accessible voting booths. By state law, towns must have one handicap accessible booth, he said.
“Once we move to the high school, it will be the single largest polling place in New Hampshire,” said Bullock.
The four elections to be held in 2008 are the New Hampshire presidential primary on Jan. 8, town and school district elections in March, the state primary in September and the presidential election in November.
