A Bedford man was sentenced to 37 months in prison for one count of child pornography.

Michael Sosnowski, 53, will also have five years of probation and must register as a sex offender after his release, said  Assistant U.S. Attorney Helen White Fitzgibbon.

At his Thursday, May 17, sentencing, Sosnowski apologized to the court, the Bedford Police Department and to the victims of child pornography, “wherever they are,” according to Fitzgibbon.

He is sorry for his “intrusions and transgressions in perpetuating the pain and anguish and suffering for one minute longer,” Sosnowski said, according to prosecutors.

An investigation by the Bedford Police Department led to Sosnowski admitting he had child pornography, and an FBI search warrant led to a search of his computer, where “numerous” explicit photographs and films were found.

Sosnowski pleaded guilty to the one count of child pornography on Jan. 22 and was sentenced May
17 in U.S. District Court in Concord.

Fitzgibbon said a felony of this kind could carry a sentence of up to 10 years, based on federal guidelines, including whether the suspect had prior offenses. Sosnowski did not have prior offenses, she said.

For Sosnowski, the Bedford police came across him “while investigating other matters,” Fitzgibbon said. 

“The plea agreement actually stipulated that he had between 10 and 150 images or films,” Fitzgibbon said.

She said Sosnowski did not know the children.
