Hannaford has a six-month extension to complete a set of conditions for its supermarket at the intersection of Jenkins Road and Route 101.
“We are now just getting data back from the DOT and it’s going to take some time,” said Deborah Brewster of design firm TF Moran Inc.
The state Department of Transportation approved only a right-out turn for a curb cut onto Route 101 from the proposed 36,000-square-foot store, she said.
The store’s final site plans had been approved by the planning board an 8-1 vote on Nov. 6, 2006. At its Monday, March 29, meeting, the board approved Hannaford’s extension, which pushes Hannaford’s deadline to Nov. 6.
The original decision carried nine conditions for approval, including one that calls for a DOT approval of the curb cut.
This approval was to come after the DOT finishes preliminarily designs for the widening of Route 101 at the intersection of Hardy and Jenkins Roads.
Town Councilor Bob Young asked if six months would be enough time for the extension.
Planning Director Karen White said a longer extension than six months might cause problems.
“I’m kind of hesitant to give anyone more than six months in advance. A lot can happen in six months,” she said.
Playground plans Also at the March 26 meeting, the board got a look at preliminary plans for a new 54,900- square-foot playground.
The playground will replace the Timber Town playground, located off County Road.
Michelle Casale, a member of the parks and recreation subcommittee planning the playground, presented the plans.
It won’t differ much from the current playground, but the toddler area will be moved closer to the regular area. The materials used will also be different.
Casale said the subcommittee is entering the final stages of fundraising for the playground and is eyeing a construction date in June or July.
“It should only take a day,” she said. “Hopefully, we can have some residents come in and, under supervision, help.”
