Police-organized brothel nets local arrest

BY SUSAN WARE

An Auburn man was arrested when he arrived at a police-organized brothel and solicited sex from an undercover police officer.

Kingston police arrested Steven Lafave, 44, of 49 Auburndale Lane, Auburn, on Thursday, July 19, at an undisclosed home in Kingston.

According to Police Chief Donald Briggs, the department set up the sting using craigslist.org.

Posting an ad under erotic services, the department received several serious inquires and was expecting dozens of suspects to arrive at the home. But the day before, someone got wise and posts began to appear on craigslist.org warning that it was a police sting and only six men made the drive to Kingston.

They each are charged with solicitation of prostitution online, a Class B misdemeanor punishable by a maximum $1,000 fine and a year in prison. Their cars were towed from the home by Bump & Grind Towing and bail was $1,000 personal recognizance.

Also arrested were Richard Osborne, 64, of 110 Fisk Road, Concord. Osborne is the husband of state Rep. Jessie Osborne, D-Merrimack, and the director of communications at the New Hampshire Technical Institute, Concord, and the voice of the University of New Hampshire hockey team.

Lafave and Osborne, along with four others, including Shaun Menzie, executive director of the Boys Club in Haverhill, Mass., will be arraigned in Plaistow District Court on Aug. 27.
