By Dan O’BrienA body found floating in the Merrimack River over the weekend was identified Monday, Aug. 3, as an Allenstown man.
Jason Upton, 35, of 98 Main St., was found by kayakers Sunday, Aug. 4, according to a statement released by the state Attorney General’s Office.
Authorities have not said whether Upton’s death was accidental or suspicious.
“A conclusion regarding the cause and manner of Jason Upton’s death is pending further testing… At this point, the police are treating his death as untimely,” the official statement read. “Because the police are in the process of interviewing witnesses who had contact with him before his death, more details about the circumstances are unavailable.”
State police said an autopsy was performed but the investigation is ongoing.
News photographer Brian Blackden of Pembroke, who was present when firefighters removed Upton’s body from the river, said three kayakers found the dead man floating along the shoreline in a grove of trees shortly before 4 p.m. Sunday.
