In celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, New Hampshire blues artist T.J. Wheeler performed with his "Dr. Jazz Freedom Singers" from the Dupont School in Allenstown on Wednesday, Jan. 16.
Fifteen students participated in the band as part of the school's enrichment program. Wheeler came in twice to rehearse with the kids before the school-wide assembly, titled "Hope, Heroes, and the Blues."
Most of the instruments were made of household items: a washboard, an upside down basin with a plucking string, a pair of spoons. Between songs, Wheeler spoke about everything from slavery to the Civil Rights Movement.
Below are three videos from the Jan. 16 performance.
